Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled Well Engineer to support real-time drilling and completion operations. This role is responsible for monitoring well parameters, diagnosing issues, optimizing performance, and ensuring safe, cost-effective, and compliant well delivery. The Well Engineer will act as a critical link between the rig site, remote operations center, and client drilling teams.


Key Responsibilities

Real-Time Operations

  • Monitor all real-time drilling and completion parameters in line with OptiWell workflow.

  • Detect anomalies and communicate findings per established protocols.

  • Provide daily activity summary reports and ensure compliance with client standards.

Engineering Analysis & Optimization

  • Diagnose and analyze drilling operational issues, recommend effective mitigations.

  • Identify and implement performance improvement opportunities.

  • Optimize BHA design to minimize drilling shocks and vibrations.

  • Review and recommend best practices for specialized projects such as Extended Reach Drilling (ERD), Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD), and Underbalanced Drilling (UBD).

  • Identify sources of non-productive time (NPT) and recommend strategies to reduce cost per foot drilled.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Actively participate in collaboration sessions: pre-spud, morning meetings, and after-action reviews.

  • Liaise with client drilling engineers, operations teams, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment.
     

    Pre-Job Planning & Data Quality

  • Review and recalibrate pre-section models and expected parameters when required.

  • Perform QA/QC of pre-job data before advancing to real-time monitoring systems.

  • Develop pre-job roadmaps that integrate engineering models, risks and mitigations, best practices, and benchmarks to support rig operations.

  • Post-Job Reviews & Knowledge Transfer

  • Prepare after-action review reports highlighting key observations and recommendations.


  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred).

  • Proven experience in drilling engineering, real-time monitoring, and well operations.

  • Strong knowledge of ERD, MPD, UBD, and BHA optimization practices.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a high-paced, real-time environment.

  •  
  • Coach and mentor client staff on the use of real-time systems, supporting effective technology adoption and performance improvement.
