Role Overview
The Vessel Steam Cleaning Engineer is responsible for the technical planning, execution oversight, and assurance of steam cleaning activities for process vessels, tanks, and associated systems. The role ensures that cleaning operations are engineered, risk-assessed, and controlled to safely remove hydrocarbons and hazardous residues, enabling safe inspection, maintenance, or entry.
The engineer acts as the technical authority, ensuring compliance with industry standards, safe systems of work, and effective hazard management in high-risk environments.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Planning
Develop and approve method statements, risk assessments, and job procedures for steam cleaning operations
Define cleaning strategy based on:
Vessel type (separators)
Contaminants (hydrocarbons, scale, chemicals)
Pressure, temperature, and material constraints
Specify equipment requirements (steam units, hoses, nozzles, containment systems)
Ensure correct isolation philosophy is applied (LOTO, blinds, double block & bleed where applicable)
Interface with operations, maintenance, and HSE teams to coordinate activities
Execution Oversight
Supervise or provide technical support during cleaning operations
Verify correct setup and operation of steam cleaning systems
Monitor performance parameters (pressure, temperature, cleaning effectiveness)
Ensure adherence to procedures and intervene in case of deviation
Coordinate with site personnel to maintain safe working conditions
