The Tool Crib Technician supports production operations by maintaining, repairing, and preparing tooling, molds, and mechanical assemblies used across the manufacturing floor.
This position blends mechanical hands-on work with inventory management, ensuring that critical tools and components are always production-ready.
The tool crib at this site operates more like a technical inventory and light fabrication center than a traditional tool checkout station.
Tooling & Equipment Maintenance
Polish and repair tooling using a lathe and surface grinder.
Mold and fabricate components for robotic end-of-arm tooling.
Operate 3D printers to create parts and fixtures.
Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and rebuilds of mechanical assemblies.
Inspect parts dimensionally, verifying diameters and tolerances.
Operate a hydraulic press for press-fit and assembly tasks.
Inventory & Production Support
Maintain accurate tool and spare parts inventory for production.
Use Work Order Travelers to stage tooling for manufacturing jobs.
Conduct regular inventory counts of tools and critical spares.
Ensure proper labeling, storage, and organization of tools and equipment.
Quality & Safety
Read blueprints and identify correct components for repair or assembly.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with facility safety standards.
Support process improvements and reliability initiatives across the production floor.
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Experience: Prior tool crib or manufacturing experience not required — training provided.
Skills:
Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
Familiarity with measuring tools (calipers, micrometers) and shop equipment.
Comfortable using lathes, grinders, presses, and basic hand tools.
Initial training conducted on 1st shift before transitioning to 3rd shift.
NEST training provided in the Houston area.
TWIC card is helpful for faster ATF processing but not required.
