Working Arrangement: Hybrid – 3 days office / 2 days home working
JAB Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Instrument Designer for a contract opportunity based in Aberdeen.
The successful candidate will have a strong Oil & Gas background and be responsible for the preparation and delivery of instrument design and draughting activities, ensuring work is completed to the required technical quality, budget and schedule.
This is a hybrid position requiring attendance at the Aberdeen office three days per week. Candidates should therefore ideally be based in Aberdeen or within a reasonable commuting distance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver Instrument design and draughting activities to the required technical standards.
- Maintain the technical quality of design work and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, regulations and procedures.
- Ensure assigned work is completed in accordance with agreed schedules and project requirements.
- Support planning, progress reporting and cost control for assigned scopes.
- Assist with improvements to design department working practices, systems and team efficiency.
- Review and check design outputs, including electronically produced documentation.
- Maintain appropriate design documentation, filing systems and databases.
- Work effectively with engineering, project management and other discipline teams.
- Support the development and competency of less experienced design personnel, including mentoring and technical assistance where required.
- Implement relevant design requirements and associated CAD/design software.
- Participate in site and offshore surveys or visits where required.
- Provide design leadership or act as a discipline focal point when required.
- Maintain effective communication with Lead/Principal Designers and Engineers, highlighting technical issues, concerns and opportunities for improvement.
- Support effective change control for design scope and schedule changes.
- Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with applicable HSE, quality and engineering requirements.
Skills & Experience
Candidates should have:
- Minimum 5 years' experience within the Oil & Gas industry.
- HNC, NC or equivalent qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline.
- Strong experience as an Instrument Designer with broad knowledge of design and draughting techniques.
- Good working knowledge of relevant engineering codes, practices, standards and statutory documentation.
- Experience working across multidisciplinary engineering environments.
- Knowledge of quality control, safety, environmental and engineering design procedures.
- Experience directing and organising design activities within small to medium-sized project environments.
- Previous exposure to the commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of engineering design.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with project teams and other engineering disciplines.
- Relevant offshore experience.
- Willingness and ability to undertake occasional offshore trips.
Offshore Certification
Candidates must hold valid offshore certification appropriate to the role, which should include where applicable:
- BOSIET / FOET, including HUET and CA-EBS
- MIST
- OEUK Medical
- Shoulder Measurement
- Any other relevant offshore or role-specific certification
Additional Requirements
Applicants must:
- Have the Right to Work in the UK.
- Be able to attend the Aberdeen office three days per week.
- Be available for occasional offshore travel.
