Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Marine Electrical Installer to join our clients shipbuilding and repair team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical systems on various types of vessels, ensuring all work complies with maritime regulations and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, terminate, and connect electrical cables, conduits, and marine-rated wiring systems aboard vessels.
- Mount and wire switchboards, distribution panels, lighting, navigation systems, communication equipment, alarms, and motors.
- Interpret and work from blueprints, technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Conduct functional and continuity tests on installed systems using multimeters and other diagnostic tools.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical malfunctions and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
- Ensure compliance with all marine electrical standards (e.g., ABS, USCG, SOLAS).
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on projects.
- Collaborate with engineering, mechanical, and construction teams in shipyards or on vessels.
- Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and confined space entry guidelines.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical diploma or certificate in electrical technology preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience as a marine electrician or similar role in a shipyard or onboard vessels.
- Familiarity with marine-specific electrical systems and standards (AC/DC, 12V–480V).
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in marine environments.
- Valid driver’s license; TWIC card or ability to obtain one may be required.
- Marine electrical certification or journeyman electrician license is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, stoop, kneel, and work in cramped conditions.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and onboard vessels under construction or in dry dock.
Work Environment:
- Primarily based in shipyards, dry docks, or aboard vessels under maintenance or construction.
- May involve shift work, overtime, or weekend hours depending on project deadlines.
