Job Details
We are looking for an experienced Forklift Driver to join a busy container and logistics operation. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of containers, equipment and materials around the yard using 8–12 tonne forklift equipment.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong awareness of yard safety, good communication skills and previous experience operating heavy-capacity forklifts within a container, logistics, industrial or similar environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate 8–12 tonne forklifts safely and efficiently.
- Load, unload and move containers, equipment and materials within the yard.
- Position and relocate containers and associated equipment as required.
- Load and unload vehicles and trailers.
- Carry out daily pre-use inspections and basic safety checks on forklift equipment.
- Report any defects, damage or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Ensure loads are secure, stable and handled in accordance with safe working procedures.
- Work closely with yard personnel, drivers and logistics teams to coordinate movements.
- Maintain safe segregation between vehicles, equipment and pedestrians within the yard.
- Assist with general yard duties when required.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Follow company Health, Safety and Environmental procedures at all times.
- Comply with lifting plans, site rules and operational procedures.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience operating 8–12 tonne capacity forklifts.
- Valid and recognised forklift certification for the appropriate truck category/capacity.
- Previous experience within a container yard, logistics depot, shipping, offshore supply base, industrial yard or similar environment is highly desirable.
- Experience loading and unloading containers, equipment or heavy materials.
- Good understanding of safe lifting and load-handling practices.
- Strong awareness of Health & Safety requirements within a busy operational yard.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Reliable, safety-conscious and comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Flexible approach to working hours where operational requirements demand.
Desirable
- Previous container handling experience.
- Experience working around HGVs, trailers and heavy plant.
- Banksman/Slinger or additional lifting qualifications.
- Experience within offshore, oil & gas, shipping or marine logistics environments.
- Full UK driving licence.
