Engineering Technician- 1st Shift

Job Summary

The Engineering Technician supports testing operations involving explosive materials and associated hardware for the oil and gas industry. This role requires a commitment to safety, precision, and compliance with all regulatory standards. The technician will assist in preparing, handling, and detonating explosives to meet specific test objectives, while maintaining accurate records and ensuring all work is performed safely and efficiently.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct full-scale explosive testing (not laboratory-based).

  • Maintain accurate and compliant explosive record keeping (ATF-regulated).

  • Collect, document, and organize test data.

  • Operate forklifts, cranes, and pressure systems.

  • Perform metal fabrication, including:

  • Metal arc welding

  • Cutting torch use

  • Plasma cutting

  • Maintain facilities, tools, and testing equipment.

  • Follow all safety regulations and company policies, including PPE requirements.

  • Identify and report hazards immediately to maintain a safe work environment.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.


    Qualifications

    Education

    • High School Diploma or GED required.

    Experience

    • Experience working with explosives is preferred but not required—comprehensive training will be provided.

    • Metal fabrication experience is a plus.

    • Candidates from military, manufacturing, or other hands-on technical industries are encouraged to apply.

    • No minimum years of experience required; a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are essential.

    Skills & Knowledge

    • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

    • Familiarity with hand and pneumatic tools.

    • Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

    • Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and following procedures.


    Travel Requirements

    • Approximately 10% travel.

    • Primarily local (Houston area) with occasional trips (e.g., Houma, LA).

    • Travel opportunities are volunteer-based within the team.


    Safety & Compliance

    • Adherence to all explosives handling and storage regulations (ATF-compliant).

    • Strict commitment to PPE use and established safety procedures.

    • Accurate and timely record keeping is a legal and operational requirement.


    Training & Development

    • All required certifications and explosive handling training will be provided internally.

    • Opportunities for continued learning, cross-training, and advancement within the team.
