We are seeking an experienced Document Designer / Controller to support piping design and documentation control within a chemical manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for preparing and modifying detailed technical drawings while ensuring compliance with plant standards, industry codes, and regulatory requirements.
This individual will also oversee the organization and maintenance of plant equipment and design records (digital and physical), ensuring documentation integrity across projects.
Conduct field walkdowns (10–15%, potentially more during heavy project periods) in various weather conditions to gather and verify as-built data
Generate and revise:
PFDs (Process Flow Diagrams)
P&IDs (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams)
3D models
Plot plans
Isometrics (ISOs)
Apply plant standards, specifications, codes, and regulations to all designs
Revise drawings and incorporate markups as required
Successfully execute small, fast-paced projects on time and within budget
Assign and physically identify equipment numbers for new and existing assets
Maintain Line Number and Instrument/Equipment Tag Number master database
Maintain piping line and specialty item lists
Ensure proper storage and organization of plant drawings and design records
Manage and maintain hard copy drawing files
Support document revision control processes
Work closely with engineers, contractors, and construction crews
Communicate effectively with technical, operations, capital, and maintenance teams
Take direction from department leads while independently prioritizing workload
Minimum of 5 years of piping design experience in the chemical industry
Proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D and/or Cadworx 3D (AutoCAD 2026 or earlier acceptable)
Strong understanding of industry piping codes and standards
Demonstrated experience creating and modifying PFDs, P&IDs, ISOs, and 3D models
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently in a plant environment
Associate degree in CAD or related field
Experience working within an operating chemical manufacturing facility
Experience maintaining master tag databases and plant drawing archives
Onsite plant environment
Field walkdowns required (varied weather conditions)
Team-oriented but requires independent work capability
Fast-paced project environment with multiple priorities
