The opportunity

We’re seeking a U.S.-credentialed Chief Engineer for the delivery voyage of the LCU-2012, an ex-military Landing Craft Utility vessel, from Port Vila to Guam. The Chief Engineer will join as a supernumerary for the voyage, subject to applicable flag, insurance and travel requirements.

There may be an opportunity to continue with the project after delivery, supporting planned cargo operations between Saipan and Tinian. Any extension will depend on the client’s final operating plans, reflagging and required approvals. The client has previously operated a sister vessel and can share relevant reference documentation. Vessel-specific technical details will be confirmed.

Responsibilities

• Become familiar with the vessel’s machinery and engineering systems during the delivery voyage.

• Monitor machinery performance and maintain appropriate engineering and maintenance records.

• Support safe and reliable operation of propulsion, power-generation and auxiliary systems.

• Carry out and oversee inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs.

• Identify maintenance needs, critical spares and tools for the voyage and any follow-on operation.

• Coordinate with the Master on vessel readiness, engineering risks and responses to equipment issues.

• Follow and support applicable onboard safety and maintenance procedures, working with shore-side management as required.

• If the follow-on assignment proceeds, help maintain machinery reliability during frequent port calls and cargo operations.

Qualifications

• Current U.S. Chief Engineer credential appropriate to the vessel and planned duties.

• Proven seagoing experience as Chief Engineer or in a comparable senior marine engineering role.

• Experience maintaining and troubleshooting marine propulsion, power-generation and auxiliary systems.

• Strong preventive-maintenance, equipment reliability, spares-planning and technical recordkeeping skills.

• Ability to meet applicable requirements for travel and supernumerary service aboard a Vanuatu-flagged vessel.

• Valid passport and ability to mobilize on short notice.

Experience with landing craft, ex-military vessels or similar operations is an advantage. Any additional credential, flag-state, medical or travel requirements will be confirmed during screening.
