The primary role of the Offshore/Hydrographic Surveyor is to provide reliable survey and positioning services on Client operated vessels, including equipment installation, calibration and operation together with data acquisition, quality control, field reporting and final reporting.


The Offshore/Hydrographic Surveyor primary responsibilities will include:

  • understanding project scopes of work and operating and monitoring the survey systems to ensure that technical specifications and procedures are complied with
  • assisting the onshore project team with the generation of project specific procedures
  • assisting the onshore project team with the close out of the project specific final deliverables
  • assisting with the installation of the survey systems on board the rig/vessel/tug and associated work sites, including the accurate determination and application of antenna and sensor offsets
  • implementing project geodesy correctly in the online survey and positioning systems
  • conducting system calibrations
  • monitoring the quality of survey positioning and sensor data
  • maintaining a logical and safe storage system for raw and processed survey data
  • writing clear and accurate field reports of offshore survey operations
  • liaising effectively with Client Representatives
  • liaising effectively with other operational areas on the rig/vessel
  • ensuring full, clear and accurate on-line records and survey logs are kept


  • Degree in geomatics, surveying or similar
  • Relevant experience in offshore survey operations including rig positioning, construction support, seabed mapping, metrology and land survey
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of hydrographic theory including geodesy, statistics, offsets, calibrations, tides and basic oceanography
  • Experience in the operation of industry standard survey equipment including DGPS systems, attitude sensors, telemetry systems, subsea acoustic positioning systems, digital video recording systems, Total Stations and RTK DGPS systems
  • Knowledge and experience of EIVA NaviPac, NaviScan and AutoCAD
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, in particular Excel and Word
