Title: Welding Field Engineer

Job Summary:
The Welding Field Engineer will report to the Lead Welding Field Engineer and will be responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of the site welding program, as well as direct hire work activities for both Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) and Pre/Post-Welding Heat Treat (PWHT). The role requires a flexible work schedule, including night shifts, split shifts, or day shifts as needed. Physical ability is essential to conduct field inspections, which may include extensive walking around a construction site, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, and navigating uneven surfaces or confined spaces. Lifting may also be required. The engineer must be able to enter and exit the project site and use the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for each task (e.g., harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
Major Responsibilities:
Support inspection activities using Inspection Test Plans (ITP) and engineering drawings.
Provide specialized welding and inspection support for construction to ensure compliance with codes and the company’s procedures, including those found in the welding control manual.
Assist in managing the distribution of weld filler materials to ensure they meet the company and code requirements.
Help plan and coordinate NDE activities related to welding, in collaboration with construction and the company’s Lead Welding Field Engineer, to support the overall construction schedule.
Monitor welding qualifications to ensure high-quality welders are tested and hired.
Maintain welder qualifications and welder stamps.
Work extended hours or night shifts when required to support project execution and schedules.
Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety.
Provide leadership and take personal accountability for site safety, environmental, and health programs.
Provide technical assistance to the Lead Welding Field Engineer, discipline superintendents, and crafts regarding Pre/PWHT, welding, and NDE activities.
Support and maintain the Project Field Welder Testing program.
Provide specialized welding engineering support to ensure construction meets all applicable codes and site requirements.
Implement the project’s Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) program and quality control program.
Support the maintenance of calibrations for Pre/PWHT equipment.
Demonstrate working knowledge of corporate Pre/PWHT procedures (e.g., PHT-2) and other welding standards and procedures.
Perform inspections and documentation of all welding, NDE, and Pre/PWHT activities on an ongoing basis.
Prepare material requisitions and maintain inventory for all Pre/PWHT equipment and materials.
Coordinate work activities and training for direct hire Pre/PWHT personnel.
Support the crafts to meet quality requirements in order to maintain cost and schedule objectives.
Verify materials, workmanship, and specification/code requirements.
Interface with the Lead Welding Engineer for task direction and oversight.
Oversee inspections and documentation of subcontractor welding and NDE work, including preparing subcontractor daily reports.
Troubleshoot engineering design issues and resolve them with engineering teams or fabricators as necessary.
Mentor and coach lower-level engineers within the welding discipline to ensure both individual and company goals are met.
Maintain weld inspection tracking systems using the company’s specific automation tools.
Interface with the Lead Welding Engineer to ensure alignment on work tasks and priorities.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience, or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in direct hire welding and NDE, particularly on LNG projects.
NDE certifications, including PT, MT, and LT (Vac Box).
In-depth knowledge of AWS, API, NFPA, AWWA, ASTM, and ASNT codes, specifications, and standards.
Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience, particularly in the type of work to be performed.
Advanced knowledge and/or certifications in SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding techniques.
Intermediate understanding of preheat and post-weld heat treatment of equipment and consumables.
Familiarity with engineering and construction methods and processes, acquired through specialized training or practical experience.
Proven ability to motivate and collaborate effectively with team members.
Strong problem-solving skills, especially in high-pressure situations.
Experience working on an LNG construction site, particularly along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Extensive technical knowledge of LNG welding applications and methods, as well as NDE practices in LNG construction.
Understanding of the company’s work processes, including Standard Work Process Procedures.
Advanced understanding of Piping Design Drawings/Specifications and various teamwork systems.
Must be certifiable by written examination to the company’s NDE requirements as NDE Level II Visual Examination.
Familiarity with the company’s specific welding and NDE documentation procedures (e.g., SWPP 4MP-T81-03701, 03708, 03705).
Proficiency with the company’s Standard Applications, including Unifier, Aconex, DSCS, PTR, Agile, Navisworks, WITs, Teamworks, Arc Stryker, Pipe Fighter, and other automation tools used on projects.
