Job Summary:
The Formwork Field Technician plays a key role in the setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continual improvement of formwork and shoring systems on construction sites. This role demands practical field experience with Doka systems or similar, knowledge of structural concrete, and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a strong safety mindset, able to address complex or atypical challenges related to formwork operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical support to project estimating teams on methods and equipment scope related to formwork systems.
Collaborate with civil engineers to review constructability of proposed designs.
Support on-site training and implementation of formwork systems.
Assess formwork handling, maintenance, and repair programs across multiple projects.
Develop and enhance installation methodologies to improve productivity and efficiency.
Evaluate and recommend innovative formwork solutions and accessories for field use.
Act as the primary field point of contact for all formwork-related technical guidance.
Design and draft formwork layouts and drawings.
Inspect installed formwork to ensure structural safety and compliance with project requirements.
Conduct frequent site visits to support, guide, and train field supervision and craft workers.
Promote and enforce a strong safety culture and safe work environment.
Stay informed on industry-standard systems, best practices, and trends in formwork and shoring technologies.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) with 5–8 years of relevant experience OR 9–12 years of relevant field-based construction experience.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
Strong working knowledge of structural concrete operations, formwork, and concrete installation.
Experience with industry-standard formwork and shoring systems (Doka preferred).
Understanding of field construction processes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specs, and installation plans.
Demonstrated commitment to environmental, safety, and health programs with a focus on zero-incident operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in roadway construction, mass grading, and slip-form paving.
Familiarity with construction scheduling and productivity tracking.
Effective communication and team coordination skills.
Prior experience in large-scale civil infrastructure or industrial construction projects.
Supervisory experience in civil disciplines.
Membership in relevant industry organizations (e.g., ASBI, ACI, SAIA, PTI).
Expertise in vertical concrete wall pours using shutter forms.
Precision in embed installation within tight tolerances.
Background in post-tensioning systems and ductwork.
Ability to coordinate activities across disciplines to reduce schedule impacts.
