John Ramsay OBE Non-Executive Director
From 2002 to 2005 John Ramsay was the Chief Executive of Cogent the Sector Skills Council for chemicals, nuclear, oil and gas, petroleum and polymers.
Prior to this he was the Chief Executive of OPITO the National Training Organisation for oil &gas extraction. His involvement with OPITO began in 1991 when he joined the Board representing the International Association of Drilling Contractors. He became Chief Executive in 1995.
During this time John significantly developed the international recognition of OPITO as the leader in the development of occupational standards for competence.
From 1990 to 1995 John was the UK and European Personnel Manager for Smedvig Ltd, a Norwegian drilling contractor providing platform drilling services and mobile drilling rigs.
John trained as an electrical engineer and his early career was spent in the construction sector in a variety of training and human resource management roles.
He is a non-executive director of the Scottish University for Industry better known as learndirectscotland and asks as Advisor the Offshore Training Foundation, a charity which supports innovation in workforce development for the oil and gas industry.
